In light of the unprecedented environmental threat posed by the radiation leaking from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant in Japan, it is urgent that the world come together as one to propose a long-term global solution that includes both experts and concerned citizens from around the world. That solution must stress international cooperation to develop new technologies and approaches to produce a permanent solution to this disaster over the next 30 years. But we also need to consider include social, cultural and institutional innovations that will make such massive collaboration possible.

This seminar will bring together speakers of English living in Korea to talk about current environmental issues in Korea and their larger implications for the world. The discussion will also touch on major issues that the Korean Federation for the Environment Movement is currently involved in such as the Four Rivers Project and ecological approaches to city planning. Emanuel’s talk about a dream of his grandmother at TED X Hongreung

Emanuel gave a talk about a memory dream he had about his grandmother when first studying in Korea at the recent TED event. Hongreung is the name of an old neighborhood (named after a royal grave) in northern Seoul that has become the center of a research cluster defined by Korea University, KAIST, KDI, Kyung Hee University Hanguk Sook of Foreign Studies and KIST.

Talk at POSTECH on the Future Challenges we face (November 11, 2011)

Emanuel delivered a talk in Korean at POSTECH on Friday, November 11 entitled “A Global Perspective on the Challenges of the Future.”  The audience consisted of a group of POSTECH undergraduates with a deep concern about the future of education and their role in society..

Emanuel described the serious challenges posed by climate change, the superannuated society and rapid technological change. He stressed the need to focus education in science in technology on addressing these issues, rather than simple applications like displays and smart phones.

Emanuel will give a presentation at the Miso Forum (Future Communications Forum) on Wednesday, July 27, 2011, in the afternoon at 4:30  PM. The Miso Forum was founded by a group of concerned businessmen, academics and public servants who wish to explore new potentials for a deeper international dialog focused around Korea. I have been impressed by their dedication to the project.

Emanuel’s talk is entitled” “Future Communications: The Intellectual Korean Wave”

The entire conference is conducted in Korean.
