Emanuel attended the STS Forum in Kyoto (October 2-4, 2011), meeting with individuals from industry, research and NGOs concerned with the impact of technology on society. There was a strong focus on the challenges of nuclear power in the conference and energy in general.
Emanuel had a chance to speak at length with founder Omi Koji and also to meet the new president of OIST (Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology) Jonathan Dorfan
Emanuel also had the chance to ask two questions at the plenary session. At one point he asked how youth would be included in the discussion about science and technology going forward. I must say I did not get a substantial answer.
