\u201cHouse Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the top congressional Democrat, criticized Trump\u2019s expected declaration, saying, \u201cThe president is doing an end run around Congress.\u201d She said that Democrats were \u201creviewing our options,\u201d which could include a congressional resolution of disapproval or a legal challenge.
At the same time, she was visibly ambivalent about the right of a president to assert emergency powers, suggesting that a Democratic president could make use of the same power on an issue like gun control. Noting the first anniversary of the massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, she continued, \u201cThat\u2019s a national emergency. Why don\u2019t you declare that emergency, Mr. President? I wish you would.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\nWSWS points\nout, that just as the Democrats were not interested in who really won the election\nin Florida back in 2000, or what happened to the ballots cast by poor people. So\nalso, the Democrats are not concerned about the destruction of the constitution.\nIf anything, they are wondering whether a bit of constitutional remodeling might\nbring them also more power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But I want to\nsay something about WSWS. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\nBut having read many excellent articles at WSWS over the last ten years, I have to say that the writing really sounds like the work of CIA analysts. I am not saying it is a front, pushing propaganda. Regarding the \u201cemergency powers\u201d issue, the WSWS presents a very solid analysis, in my opinion. The content is not revolutionary so much as it is constitutionalist.
