The poets Maija Rhee Devine (\uc774\ub9e4\uc790) and Lee Eun-shim (\uc774\uc740\uc2ec) read aloud their poems in protest against the cultural violence perpetrated against women by the commercialized plastic surgery culture thriving in Sout Korea at the “Peace March against cultural violence towards women.” The event was organized by the Asia Institute (president Emanuel Pastreich)\u00a0 and the Korea Peace Movement (president Lakhvinder Singh) organized at\u00a0 Apgujeong Station on April 23, 2018.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The event lasted for about one hour, but formed a powerful contrast to the slick culture of consumption that has taken over the Gangnam district. Something of Korea’s powerful poetic tradition was harnessed to present an alternative view of what is possible for women.<\/p>\n
