At the time, he was taking refuge in Busan and most everyone around him could only conceive of military solutions. His vision is only the more relevant today.

Drawing on his thinking, the “DMZ International Peace Residency” is planting the seeds for the resolution of conflicts around the world using art to move our thoughts away from a society based on theories of competition. We will use culture to transform this region of division into a space of meeting. We will bring a rebirth of coexistence to this land of death through an embrace of life. Here on the border of the DMZ, we will develop a culture of art that can heal these wounds.

Symposium:

A Beautiful Studio for a Human Peace

The DMZ Global Peace Residency

“The DMZ: Modern Art Blooms in the soil of Tragedy”

“Artistic Action for an Age of Life and of Peace in Northeast Asia”

Date: Saturday, March 17, 2012

Time: 1:30 PM – 5:00 PM

Place: OP Observation Deck, Yeoncheon DMZ, Gyeonggido Providence

Sponsor: Institute for Modern Art, Kyung Hee University

Presenter: DMZ International Peace Residency Committee

Emanuel will be a discussant on Saturday, March 17, 2012, at a symposium concerning the “DMZ International Peace Residency” established adjacent to the DMZ near Yeoncheon by the Institute for Modern Art of Kyung Hee University.
