Emanuel was invited to deliver the opening remarks and also to read the poems of the Korean poet Son Hoyeon \uc190\ud638\uc5f0 \u00a0at a special commemorative event (eighth anniversary of her death) held at the home of Son Hoyeon in Seoul. Emanuel delivered these short remarks (in Korean below) and read several of the poems in English.<\/p>\n

The event was organized by Lee Shin Seung, the daughter of Son Hoyeon and a poet in her own right. \u00a0Ms. Lee recent delivered a talk on poetry for Emanuel’s Korean literature class at Kyung Hee University.<\/p>\n

Son Hoyeon is unique as a Korean poet who did most of her poetic work in Japanese, in the tanka genre of Japanese poetry. \u00a0Although her writings are primarily in Japanese, she writes about Korea and the Korean historical and literary tradition, making her very much part of the Korean literary tradition.<\/p>\n
