This group meets frequently to discuss how economic, cultural and political integration between China, Japan and Korea can be achieved. The Research Association for a Northeast Asian Community met today (September 22, 2011) for a conference entitled &#8220;Constructing a Common Economic Community for the Korean Peninsula and the Search for a Path to Reunification.&#8221;<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The conference featured a Chinese speaker, a Japanese speaker, the Vice Minister of the Ministry of Unification, and a variety of other Korean experts. I was struck by the concrete discussion and the confidence that the experts exuded. Over the last few years, most people have been rather diffident about reunification and its prospects.
